Some speculators were undeterred by a court order Friday, while it remains full steam ahead for a biotech play. Here’s some small stocks making big moves on Friday, April 1, 2016 (as of 4 pm EST):
Pacific Exploration & Production Corp. (TSX: PRE) shares continued to move higher Friday, up to 77% to $1.47. On Thursday, shares of the oil and gas producer/explorer gained 26% after the Company announced that the Colombian Constitutional Court instructed it to suspend operations within two kilometers of the border of an indigenous community known as “Vencedor Piriri” encompassing a portion of Quifa Block. The Company added that it has implemented contingency plans so as to not materially affect the production from the Quifa Block.
As well, shares of Newalta Corporation (TSX: NAL) slipped 12% to $1.70 as the provider of engineered environmental solutions said it intends to enter into a bought deal as well as a private placement equity financing to raise a total of $50 million at a price of $1.70 per share.
GeneNews Limited (TSX: GEN) stock, meanwhile, continued to advance Friday, up 14% to $0.20. On Thursday, GeneNews shares jumped 52% after the Company reported that it has entered into a collaboration agreement with JTS Health Partners. The national healthcare management consulting and professional services firm will accelerate adoption of GeneNews’ menu of proprietary cancer tests, including its lead ColonSentry blood-test for assessing an individual’s current risk for colorectal cancer.
Finally, Zecotek Photonics Inc. (TSXV:ZMS) (OTCPK:ZMSPF) (TSXV: ZMS) shares rose as much as 3% before easing 3% to close at $0.305 after the developer of photonics technologies for industrial, healthcare and scientific markets announced that it has received preliminary orders for its patented Lutetium Fine Silicate (LFS) scintillation crystals from major OEMs developing radiation monitoring and detection devices.
